Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin for Preschoolers

Valentine’s Day Themed Sensory Bin Activity for Preschoolers.

In the past I have always filled up my sensory bins with rice … and let me be the first to say that it was very MESSY!

So I replaced my rice with “shredded paper”. And thought it still could get a bit messy with the shredded papers pouring out the bin – the clean up is MUCH better.

What you’ll need:

• Valentine’s Day Colour Paper

• Marker

• Bin

• Shredded paper (or anything to fill up the Bin)

• White Paper

• Glue

I came up with 2 different activities for my preschooler.

PART ONE

Here is a great activity that promotes letter recognition and helps identify their name.

Broken Hearts Spell my Name

How to set up this activity:

• Begin by cutting out the number of hearts needed per each letter of your LOs name.

• On one side of the heart write the Upper case letter and on the other side write the lower case letter

• Cut the heart in half

• Lay out all the upper case hearts in-front of your LO

• Place the lower case hearts inside the Bin

• Encourage your LO to go on a hunt and connect all the broken hearts in order to spell their name!

• He then glued all of the broken hearts onto a paper.

*I used our Name Tracing Worksheet to help him identify which letters come next*

PART TWO

This activity revolves around counting and number recognition.

Counting Broken Hearts

How to setup this activity:

• Cut out as many hearts as to you’d like

• On one side of the hearts write down the numeric number and on the other side draw out the number (6 Hearts – 6 circles etc)

• Have your LO go on a hunt and collect all broken hearts

• Encourage them to put them together and glue it onto a piece of a paper
